In this teaching, Meditation as Medicine, Dr. Nida explores the two treasures of the 12th century yogi-physician, Yuthok Yönten Gönpo — Sowa Rigpa and the Yuthok Nyingthig — to help us find our spiritual match. Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan medical) diagnosis and treatment revolves around elemental type, similar to Ayurveda.

Please join us in the chanting of the Monlam Choga, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities), a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities, avert obstacles in the bardo, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives.

Remembering Pema Tseden

Tibet’s premier filmmaker has died. By writing and directing movies that won acclaim across the globe, Pema Tseden put Tibetan cinema on the map. And through showing modern-day Tibet on the big screen, he allowed audiences around the world to see the tragic evisceration of Tibetan culture under Chinese rule

This roundtable brings together social science researchers working with Tibetan and Himalayan pastoralist communities and climate scientists who have worked in the Himalayas and Asia to discuss how interdisciplinary approaches might enrich understandings of climate change in the Tibetan and Himalayan regions and contribute to knowledge of global climate change and community resilience.

Organized by the CU-IU Climate Research Initiative on the Tibetan Plateau, this event is sponsored by the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center at Indiana University and the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University.

In this Tibet Talk, ICT will discuss the book with two people who knew Lodi Gyari from different perspectives: Greg Craig, the first US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues, and Tenzin Tethong, the first President of ICT and a former Chairman of the Cabinet of the Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamsala.

Tsering Yangzom Lama’s debut novel, “We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies,” has become an international bestseller and been longlisted for the Center for Fiction's First Novel Prize.
